POLOKWANE – The Namibia women’s national football team claimed a 2-1 victory over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on March 1, during the Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship.
South Africa took the lead in the first half when Nthabiseng Majiya scored, assisted by Sinegugu Zondi, sending the teams into halftime with the hosts ahead.
Namibia responded strongly in the second half, with Muhinatjo Hanavi scoring an equaliser.
The match remained tied at full time and went into extra time, where Memory Ngoda netted the decisive goal for the visitors, sealing Namibia’s win.
Despite Banyana Banyana’s determined efforts to find an equaliser, they were unable to break through before the final whistle.
Hollywoodbets head of operations, Morgan Shandu, praised the tournament and the players:
“Congratulations to all the teams that participated in the Hollywoodbets Cosafa Women’s Championship.
“It has been inspiring to watch the incredible action at the tournament.
“The calibre of football displayed over the past few weeks has without a doubt shown that women’s football in Southern Africa is thriving,” he said.
The next edition of the tournament will take place next season, with dates to be announced by the association.
