The arrest comes as Limpopo steps up road safety enforcement following the launch of the 2026/2027 Safer Festive Season Campaign on October 22.

The campaign includes intensified operations targeting dangerous driving, with particular attention to speeding, drunk driving and unroadworthy vehicles on major routes, including the N1, R81, R524 and R71.

The department has warned that excessive speed increases the risk of serious and fatal crashes, urging motorists to obey speed limits and drive responsibly.

The department reiterated that reckless driving would not be tolerated and called on motorists to prioritise the safety of all road users.
