Noordelikes edge Nylstroom in rain-soaked thriller

In rainy conditions, Noordelikes edged out Nylstroom 25-20 in a decisive Sibanye Super League match, signaling a promising season ahead.

POLOKWANE – Noordelikes Rugby Club’s first team secured a hard-fought 25-20 victory over Nylstroom Rugby Klub in the Sibanye Super League Shield division last weekend.

The match, played in rainy conditions, was the decisive final game of a three-match series that would determine league standings.

“If we win, we are equal on points with Nylstroom; if they win, they advance to the semi-finals,” explained Henry Moolman, club president.

The club’s second team also faced Nylstroom in a friendly, coming out on top with a 21-10 win.

Looking ahead to the new season

Moolman said the start date for the league season is still uncertain, likely at the end of April or beginning of May.

Talks indicate that Noordelikes may compete only in the first and second leagues, with potential matchups against Vhembe or Waterberg in a North vs South format.

“We are not yet sure who will be included in that pool, but we are very excited to start,” he said.

Highlighting the team’s progress, Moolman added that the club is seeking sponsors to support its initiatives.

“We are starting over, and now we can see the hard work paying off. The team is in good form, and the year looks very promising,” he said.
