POLOKWANE – Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of human remains at a municipal cemetery in Polokwane.
Remains found in bushy area
According to Polokwane Municipality, the remains were found in a bushy area within the cemetery grounds and were not located near any marked graves.
The matter was reported to the police, who attended the scene and have opened an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
Municipality expresses concern
Polokwane Executive Mayor Makoro John Mpe said the municipality was concerned by the incident and was cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities.
“We are deeply concerned by this discovery and we extend our appreciation to the police and other role players for their swift response and ongoing investigation. At this stage, we urge the public to allow the authorities the space to conduct their work with the necessary care and professionalism. It is important that we avoid speculation and allow verified facts to guide our understanding of this matter,” said Mpe.
Support for police probe
The municipality said it would continue to support the investigation and provide any assistance required by authorities.
