A heartwarming video of four Gr 5 PEPPS Polokwane friends praying together before an exam has touched social media users.

POLOKWANE – A heartwarming video of a group of PEPPS Polokwane Preparatory learners praying together before an exam is gaining attention online after footage from the school’s CCTV cameras was shared on Facebook.

The touching moment, which was captured on the first day of exams for Gr 4-7 learners, shows four Gr 5 friends gathering in prayer before entering the exam venue.

Four friends, one prayer

Polokwane Observer tracked down the learners behind this special moment and spoke to them about what inspired the spontaneous act.

The group consists of Dzima Tshivhandekano, Thabang Mdhluli, Letago Shai and Rhulani Maluleke, whose display of friendship, faith and encouragement has resonated with many social media users.

Dzima, who initiated the prayer, said the habit stems from advice he received from his mother. “My mother taught me to pray before an exam. In order for the prayer to work, you need to do your part by studying and completing your schoolwork. Then you leave the rest to God,” he said.

He added that his mother also taught him the importance of gratitude. “We should be thankful for waking up in the morning, arriving safely at school and having the opportunity to write an exam and test our knowledge.”

A routine that strengthens friendship

The boys said praying together has become a normal part of their routine and helps strengthen their friendship. They believe prayer not only gives them confidence before exams, but also brings them closer together.

Thabang explained that the group often prays together before entering the examination room and sometimes individually once inside.

“When we pray together, we communicate with God. We ask Him to be with us during the exam and thank Him for all the good things He does for us, including bringing good friends into our lives,” he said.

School’s reaction

PEPPS Polokwane Preparatory Head Sue Altenroxel said the school shared the moment after it was noticed on CCTV footage.

“Gr 4-7 learners started their exams and there was a real buzz and excitement in the air. It was so beautiful to witness such a heartwarming and completely spontaneous moment between children as they encouraged one another through prayer,” she said.

Altenroxel said moments like these remind teachers that education extends beyond academics. “Seeing learners support, uplift and care for each other in this way is incredibly special. In moments like this, we know our job is done,” she said.
