Sekhukhune police bust R500k dagga haul
Police in Sekhukhune arrested a 44-year-old suspect and seized over 200kg worth of dagga during an intelligence-led operation on Wednesday.
LIMPOPO – Police in Sekhukhune have arrested a 44-year-old male suspect and seized dagga with an estimated street value of more than R500 000 following a tip-off on Wednesday (June 17).
Acting on operational information, police intercepted a vehicle matching the description at Steelbridge, Ga-Malekana village, as it entered the Sekhukhune policing area.
Search yields large dagga haul
The bakkie, fully loaded with dagga packaged in black plastic bags, was stopped and searched with the driver’s permission.
The driver failed to provide a satisfactory response about the origin of the dagga and was immediately placed under arrest on the spot for possession of dagga.
The dagga, weighing 258.251kg, was seized during the apprehension of the suspect.
Court appearance pending
The suspect is expected to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday, June 18), facing a charge of possession of dagga.
Commissioner applauds police vigilance
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the police for their vigilance.
“This interception sends a clear message that Sekhukhune District is not a transit route for drugs. We urge the members of the community to continue sharing information with the police so we can rid our streets of illicit substances and to put behind bars those who profit from these drugs,” she said.
