Home Affairs extends hours during high smart ID demand

Home Affairs offices will remain open until 6pm until July 21 to help learners and the public apply for Smart ID cards.

LIMPOPO – The Department of Home Affairs has extended operating hours at its offices nationwide to accommodate increased demand for services during the school holidays.

Until July 21, Home Affairs offices will remain open until 6:00 PM, two hours later than the usual closing time of 4:00 PM.

Assisting learners and the public

The extended hours are aimed at assisting learners and members of the public who need to apply for or collect Smart ID cards, particularly as demand for these services typically increases during the school holiday period.

Department spokesperson and Deputy Director-General for Operations Thulani Mavuso said the extension forms part of ongoing efforts to improve access to Home Affairs services.

“The Department continues to roll out interventions that seek to expand its services while ensuring that we deliver dignity for all,” he said.

Bank branches also offering services

Mavuso also highlighted that the department has introduced an upgraded online booking system through the MyHomeAffairsOnline platform. The new system includes additional security measures aimed at preventing the abuse of appointment slots and improving access for legitimate users.

Make use of the extended hours

Members of the public are encouraged to make use of the extended operating hours to apply for or collect smart ID cards and other available services before the school holidays come to an end.
