Arrest made in Mankweng businessman’s murder
Seven months after Tebogo Mothapo (43) was shot dead in Mankweng, police have arrested a man found with the businessman's stolen phone.
POLOKWANE – Police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the murder of Mankweng businessman Tebogo Mothapo (43), following an intelligence-driven operation in the Mankweng policing area.
Phone leads police to suspect
Members of the Limpopo Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit made the arrest on Monday (July 20), at Ga-Mothapo’s Tjatjaneng village.

The suspect was found in possession of a cellphone allegedly stolen from Mothapo on the night of his murder.
Businessman shot in December
Mothapo was shot and killed in Mankweng Zone 1 on December 16, 2025. The motive for the killing was not established at the time, and the case docket was later transferred to the provincial office for further investigation.
Suspect due in court Wednesday
The suspect is expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (July 22), facing charges of murder and possession of suspected stolen property.
Police say further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
