Quick police work nabs Seshego robbery suspect

Police say a woman was assaulted and robbed of her cellphone while walking to a shop with her sister in Seshego Zone 8.

POLOKWANE – A 19-year-old man is expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court today (July 23), after he was arrested for an alleged common robbery in Seshego Zone 8.

What allegedly happened

Police say the incident happened on Monday (July 20), at around 10:00, when a young woman was walking to a shop with her sister.

They allege a man approached and demanded to smoke her vape. When she refused, he became aggressive, insulted her, hit her with open hands and grabbed her cellphone before running off, leaving her on the ground.

The victim reported the matter to police, who registered a case of common robbery.

Suspect traced within a day

Acting on information gathered, the Seshego Tracing Team arrested the suspect at his home in Zone 8 the very next day, Tuesday (July 21), at around 14:15.

Police say the suspect told them during questioning that he had sold the stolen phone on. Efforts to recover it are continuing.

Investigations remain ongoing.
