The matter was reported to police, and the suspect, the victims’ grandfather, was arrested at his residence on Tuesday night (August 4) following investigations.
Commissioner condemns “deeply disturbing” case
The docket has been transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Seshego for further investigation.
Limpopo provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers condemned the incident, saying it was deeply disturbing that a person entrusted with a child’s care and protection could instead become the source of their harm. He said SAPS Limpopo remained committed to protecting children and would continue its fight against crimes targeting the most vulnerable members of society.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court today (August 6) facing charges of rape. Investigations are continuing.
