Vintage and exotic cars draw crowds at Mall of the North Wheels Expo

Vintage and exotic cars drew crowds at the Mall of the North Wheels Expo, with a 1937 Ford Model T and a 2016 Ford Mustang GT among the highlights.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Classic Car Club (LCCC) hosted a successful Wheels Expo on the overflow parking area of Mall of the North on Saturday, bringing together vintage and exotic car lovers and visitors enjoying an outing on a sunny winter morning.

The cars were the main attraction while a variety of stalls promoting motor accessories and equipment were also on show, and the exhibitors were in attendance and eager to share information and the histories of their vehicles.

1937 Ford Model T steals the show

A 1937 Ford Model T was the oldest vehicle on view, while a 1938 Chevrolet Master, a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 219 Ponton and a 1966 Steyr Puch Haflinger were very popular for amateur photographers.

A bright yellow 2016 Ford Mustang GT made heads turn, while a 1973 Jeep Gladiator Fire Truck was an attraction for the younger visitors.

Food, drinks and good vibes

Food and drink stalls were well supported and the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100’s beer garden provided on-site cooked prego rolls and enough seating for those who just wanted to sit down and enjoy the vibe.

The chairperson of the LCCC, Gustaf Tiersma, said the day was a great success.

“We had just under 100 vehicles on show and although it was not as many as last year, we had more visitors, indicating that residents of the city are ready to support local entertainment,” Tiersma said and added that some of the exhibitors came from other towns in Limpopo.

Several Porsches are on show.

Save the date: Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive

Tiersma reminded motor enthusiasts that the 2026 Polokwane Distinguished Gentleman’s Drive (DGD) will take place on September 27 and that pre-1984 vehicles will take part in a drive around the city, culminating in a lunch where an opportunity will be to meet old friends and make new ones.

“Last year’s variety of vehicles and the dapper dressed participants made the morning an outing to remember and we invite proud owners to join in the fun,” Tiersma said.
