Thohoyandou fashion students showcase designs at fun day

Fashion students from Zero1 Zero5 in Limpopo recently showcased their vintage designs at the academy's annual Fun Day Fashion Show.

LIMPOPO – Young fashion designers from Zero1 Zero5 recently showcased their vintage garments during the Zero1 Zero5 Fun Day Fashion Show.

Nthatheni Ravhutsi, Mulweli Ndou and Muronga Malitsha took to the stage to model their vintage creations.

The day is an annual gathering where students and participants across accredited programmes come together to celebrate, network and connect.

‘The highlight of the day’

Mckenzie Msimanga from Zero1 Zero5 Academy Education and Training said this year, the academy wanted to elevate the experience by introducing a student garment showcase.

“The fashion show was a resounding success and the highlight of the day. Our clothing production students took to the runway to model the garments they designed and constructed in class. The atmosphere was vibrant and full of energy, with overwhelming support from fellow students, staff and leadership.”

Building practical confidence

He said the objective was to build practical confidence among students by giving them a platform to display their craftsmanship.

“Beyond classroom technical training, garment creators need exposure. We aimed to build student confidence, empowering learners to take pride in their handiwork and see the tangible value of their skills.

“We also want to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration by creating opportunities for fashion students to team up with marketing learners to brand, promote and sell their work,” he said.

Exceeded expectations

Msimanga said the response exceeded the academy’s expectations.

“Seeing the pride and confidence in the students as they showcased their garments proved that the objective was met.

“The event successfully sparked conversations around local talent, demonstrated the tangible outcome of accredited skills training, and proved that rural development agencies can foster high-calibre creative innovation,” he said.

Empowering communities through skills

He said they are dedicated to empowering communities through accredited skills development and training.

“Operating in areas such as Lwamondo village, where formal opportunities are limited, we deliver accredited programmes aligned with national qualification frameworks and industry standards.

“Our goal is to bridge critical skills gaps and equip individuals with practical, certified skills that lead to employment, self-sufficiency and lifelong learning,” he concluded.
