Andy and Riska are ready to steer the Tommie ship

As head boy and head girl of Tom Naudé Technical High School, Andy Meso and Riska Britz are now in charge of keeping the learners in tact.

POLOKWANE – A school is like a ship with a captain and supporting staff to keep it going.

Tom Naudé Technical High School is proud to say their ship is moving forward successfully.

Part of the team that keeps them afloat is the RCL.

This group of learners makes the teachers’ hands stronger. As RCL chairman and -girl, Andy Meso and Riska Britz are now in charge of keeping the learners in tact.

“I joined Tom Naudé when I was Gr 8 and ever since wished I will be on the RCL. I saw potential in the school. I felt ambitious,” Andy says.

Riska thought one of the other girls will be chosen and was quite surprised when her name was called.

“My twin sister, Zonika was also in the line-up and when my name was called she hugged me. At first my mom could not believe it but after a while even she had tears in her eyes.”

Riska became part of the Tommie family in Gr 10. She is crazy about Formula 1 and wanted to become part of that team one day.

“I started with go carts, but soon realised I would like to know how an engine works. The obvious choice was to enroll at Tom Naudé where they have excellent programmes.”

According to Andy, the duty of the head leaders of the school is to represent the school. “We should lead by example and show other people what a good Tommie is.”

Riska adds that they have to keep the school’s name high. “People still look at the school in a very negative way. It is our work to get the school’s name out there and show people we are better than the stories they hear. It is each and every learner’s duty.”

Both learners have big dreams as Andy would like to study civil engineering while pursuing a rugby career. Riska is looking at au pair opportunities in The Nederlands.
