Late municipal accounts and other service delivery headaches

We had a tumultuous year in Seshego this past year.

We had a tumultuous year in Seshego this past year.

Our municipal accounts were rarely delivered on time. Even when one went to the TLC to enquire about the state of accounts, it was rare that these were available before the seventh of the month. This obviously put us under severe psychological strain.

However, if one failed to pay on the 15th of the month, the water and electricity were immediately switched off.

The second factor was the amount to be paid per month.

My two sisters who had been paying their rates regularly for many years without any mishaps suddenly found themselves owing thousands of rand when they used to pay less than R700 a month.

In my case, I found I had paid over R400. As to where these amounts come from, I do not know.

There was a time when Polokwane residents were regarded as the best payers of rates and taxes in South Africa.

One factor which made this possible was that our accounts arrived on time without any hassle. The number of complaints on the amounts issued by the municipality were minimal.

I am made to understand that the accounts are now prepared in Pretoria.

These people who do the preparations are true amateurs and I suggest they re-employ the former accountants so that we have piece of mind once again in the city.

In Zone 1 we have a problem with thunderstorms. When there are thunderstorms, our electricity goes out. The engineers do not repair it quickly and sometimes we have to wait 48 to 72 hours before the lights are fixed.

Are the transformers in Zone 1 are of a lower quality than those in the city?
