“Jack of all trades” and much more

MOTORCYCLE and generator mechanic, Jack Sekgopo from Ga-Chokoe in Moletjie has not let disability and unemployment stop him from doing something with his life, and he thanks the community for their continued support.

Sekgopo’s disability was caused by a car accident in 1993, which also cost him his job.

“After I lost my job, I decided to focus on repairing generators and motorcycles in order to take care of my family. Some of my children managed to go to school through this business, so I am grateful to the community for their support,” says Sekgopo.

He is not only a mechanic; he is also a dressmaker, making jerseys, trousers, skirts and traditional dresses.

Sekgopo encourages unemployed people who are good with their hands not to sit around and do nothing, but make a living from this.

“People should stand up and start focusing on their gifts from God. I made it, surely you can make it too. I taught my son, Ntebaleng how to be a mechanic, but with the way things are changing, he is now teaching me a few things.”
