Something that I have seen in my capacity as a trained business rescue practitioner is that I get to meet a number of business owners who are in distress because their businesses are not performing as they had expected.
What these company owners have in common is their state of mind, and the approach they use in trying to deal with their problems without the services of a trained business rescue practitioner.
Let’s start by exploring the first concern; the state of mind.
We all know that we make decisions differently when we are in a good (empowering) mode and when we are in a bad (disempowering) mode. What happens when somebody is really frustrated is that they get into a disempowering mode, which leads them to taking an approach that does not serve them constructively, but keeps them deeply embedded in whatever frustrations are disturbing them.
The danger of a disempowering mode is that the individual spends over 90% of his or her time focused on the problem as opposed to using that time to work towards a solution. This approach only makes it 10 times harder to come out of the situation.
Just as the topic of the article suggests, where focus goes, energy flows. When energies are focused on the negatives (problems) and not on the positives (solutions), the energy will flow where it is directed, and if you think about it, just a small “tweak” in the right direction (focus) can make a huge difference, and this is the challenge most people face.
It is partly for this very reason that I truly believe the legal system was born. When you are in a difficult situation you need somebody who is not emotional about your concerns, someone who can focus on the solution, which is to get you out of whatever distraction you have at the time.
This is a skill that you as a business owner really need to possess, because things that you mostly have no control over will from time to time occur. And depending on how you handle them, you can win or lose. The lesson today is to equip yourself with skills that will enable you to sail through rough and smooth seas, and this is very important if you are a business owner because it may be the difference between success and failure.
I would also like to let you in on one of the secrets successful people have: they have positive mindsets, irrespective of their situations.
