MOST business owners facing a business crisis are often caught up in a catch 22 situation. This becomes true due to the fact that while a specialist turn around strategist is required to save the ailing business, their financial means in obtaining such expertise might be a challenge for them, so they have three options when this occurs,
1. They walk away at massive financial ruins.
2. They hope somebody could just come and save their businesses by bailing them out.
3. They simply soldier on.
As research has it, most business owners choose to soldier on in the hope that they will ultimately get it right by doing exactly what they’ve been doing all along, and so they drift deeper into what got them into trouble in the first place. As a result, nothing or very little is done. Even worst, most of these owners often think that injecting cash into the business will be the cure and so they start employing all their life’s savings and investments only to loose it all including the business. They simply fail to understand that lack of cash is only an effect and not the cause.
As if this is not enough, usually when a crisis occurs in a business, the problem will not have come as a surprise but as something that has existed for some time, but now time is a serious factor. In other words, if the business owner wants to save the business, they need to move quicker in identifying the troubled areas within their businesses and implement solutions faster with little or no margins for error. It’s always been said that prevention is better than cure and this is the effect of what happens when business owners fail to make this prevention. There are tools and ways of identifying if an area of your business is not preforming accordingly and therefore giving you the opportunity to do something about it whilst you still have the time – Some of that I offer for FREE as a trained business rescue practitioner called a “business diagnosis” which is meant to help business owners to first identify the impact areas within their businesses, then expose all the potential threats and opportunities within a business.
All is not lost when a business is facing hardships because all that you really need if you are undergoing such crisis is to clearly be in a position to know exactly:
• What it is that you need to do (strategy).
• How to do it (the implementation on impact areas).
• When to do it (the timing).
With all the above in place, then you will have a far better chance of turning your business around because doing more of what does not work will only lead your business to more ruins.
