Review asked some of the gr. 6 learners at Hadashah Christian School if they knew what a butler was and whether they had butlers at their homes.
Talent Nduvheni said a butler was someone who worked for you, a man who did household chores like a woman.
“He looks after the house and cooks for people in the house. We do not have a butler at home, my mom cooks for us.”
Jason Vogel said a butler is a man who serves food to a king in a castle. “Butlers only work in castles, they only serve kings not normal people like us. That is why we do not have one at our home,” he said.
Itumeleng Masopoga said a butler was a man who worked in the house and took care of the household, cooking and cleaning.
“He is like a male maid. We do not have a butler, my mother always wants me to work and help her around the house so that I would not grow up to be lazy.”
Mashangoane Mabotja said a butler was a man who served as a worker in the house.
“He wears black and white clothes, carries a tray and white cloth and serves his masters food and drinks. I do not have a butler at home, butlers are too expensive. We have a maid.”
Motepa Raphadu said: “A butler is like a kind of a servant who works in the house, transporting things in the house like food and drinks from the kitchen to the boss. He also sleeps in the house. We do not have a butler, we have a maid instead”.
Tebogo Shoroma said: “A butler is a person who works in the house, cleaning, washing, cooking and serving the people in the house. We do not have a butler, we do our own cleaning and cooking”.
