Is a Lion a pet?

THERE are different types of animals that people can keep as pets including cats, dogs, fish, birds or even geckos.

But can wild animals be kept as pets?

CV asked learners from Share Joy Pre-school if a lion was a pet, and if they had lions at home.

Kgomotso Msiza said she did not think a lion was a pet because it did not stay inside the house.

“A lion has claws. It can run very fast and it bites people. This is why it lives in the zoo and not at our home.”

Bokang Moselenyane said: “a lion is not a pet and I do not have any animals at home. My mom does not like animals”.

Boledi Mphahlele said a lion was not a pet.

“A lion is a big dangerous cat, but it does not live with us at home. We have a small fluffy dog at home that lives with us and it is not as dangerous as a lion.”

Londani Rambado said she was not sure if a lion was a pet or not. “I have never seen anyone with a lion in their house. We only have dogs at home, not a lion.”

Neo Mokwena said a lion was not a pet because lions lived in the bushes, so they could not bite people. “You cannot keep a lion at home. It will hurt people.”

Makopa Maponya said: “pets are animals that live with us at home. Lions live at the zoo and in the bushes. I do not like animals, I do not have any pets at home”.

Theodore Nkuna said: “lions are very scary and big. They live at the zoo and in the bushes. They roar and have claws that can scratch people. We do not have a lion at home, because it will eat us”.
