OPEL is celebrating four world premieres at the 2014 Paris Motor Show from October 4 to 19.
The new Corsa, the stylish and sporty Adam S, the Mokka with a new 100kW 1.6 CDTI turbo diesel engine and the new Opel 2.0 CDTI engine in the Insignia and Zafira Tourer will all be presented to the public for the first time.
The new Opel Corsa comes with a totally new interior that enhances the perception of high quality and spaciousness, including IntelliLink infotainment technology and ultra-modern driver assistance systems.
The second-generation Opel Eye front camera, with traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, high beam assist, following distance indication and forward collision warning, further increases driving safety.
The new, refined and efficient 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo engines, smooth-shifting transmissions, a new suspension setup and optimised steering deliver class-leading levels of comfort and precision.
The new Opel Corsa will make its South African debut during the course of 2015, with model line-up and specifications yet to be confirmed. Slick design, a spirited powertrain and numerous individual characteristics is what the latest Opel Adam, the sporty Adam S is all about. Drivers who like a somewhat sportier drive will find a 110kW, 1.4-litre Turbo ECOTEC unit under the bonnet, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Adam S accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in only 8.5 seconds, with top speeds of well over 200 km/h easily attainable.
Available in Europe from the beginning of 2015, the Opel Adam S is under consideration for the South African market, where other Adam derivatives make their local debut early in the new year.
From early 2015, the Opel Mokka will be available in Europe with Opel’s all-new 100kW 1.6-litre CDTI turbo diesel engine. Already dubbed the “whisper diesel”, the extremely compact four-cylinder unit will replace the current 1.7-litre diesel in the Mokka line-up.
It offers more power and torque from a smaller displacement, as well as significantly lower fuel consumption.
This lively 1.6 CDTI is part of a new family of all-aluminium Opel diesel engines. Maximum speed is more than 190km/h.
The whisper diesel is coupled to Opel’s precise six-speed manual transmission and the Mokka comes standard with a Start and Stop system. The Mokka 1.6 CDTI consumes just 4.1-litres per 100km.
Contributors to its strong and clean performance include a VTG turbocharger (Variable Turbine Geometry) and a high-pressure, common-rail fuel injection system. Thanks to state-of-the-art CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) simulations and scores of optimisation loops, engineers have improved noise generation, vibration and running refinement.
Exact model derivatives, as well as their specifications and engines are yet to be confirmed for South Africa, where the Opel Mokka makes its debut in the first half of 2015.
Available from 2015 in Europe, Opel’s new-generation, 2,0-litre turbo diesel ticks every important box. Packing 125kW and substantial torque of 400Nm, it replaces the diesel engine in the Insignia and the power unit of the Zafira Tourer, which currently have 380 Nm torque on tap.
The new 2.0 CDTI engine runs as clean as a petrol engine with Opel’s BlueInjection selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. BlueInjection is an after-treatment which removes nitrogen oxide (NOx) from the engine’s exhaust gases.
The Opel Insignia and Zafira are not under consideration for the South African market.
