[COLUMN] Schools must never tolerate bullying
The province's Education MEC, Polly Boshielo, school principals and School Governing Bodies (SGBs) must urgently awaken from slumber before it is too late. Aggressive bullying at schools is tearing the fabric of our education system into smithereens.
Manifestations of bullying and antagonistic aggression at schools are breeding a new sordid abnormality in our education system. Many of our learning centres, especially public schools, are mutating into dens of fear, aggression, hostility and mayhem. There are dangerous learners who come
to school while armed with knives, guns, machetes and deadly weapons. In many instances, such deadly-armed learners are commonly accustomed to
the abuse of drugs and alcoholic spirits. Just imagine the consequences of having, at school, some gun-armed learners who are also high on drugs
and alcohol. Consequently, a spectre of fear and terror will grip all the corridors and classrooms of that school.
Incidents of bullying and antagonistic aggression at school are mostly perpetuated by fiery gangs of hostile learners. These gangs of aggressive learners derive immense pleasure from the public humiliation of innocent learners. Clinically, there is a descriptive correlation between socio-psychopathic aberration and aggressive bullying at schools. In many instances, bullies and their cheerleaders will always laugh irrationally at victims of bullying. Bullies and their cheerleaders are actually two sides of the same socio-psychopathic coin.
A toxic combination of social, psychotic and behavioural factors are variably accountable for incidents of bullying. Bullying and antagonistic aggression are two menacing monsters that must be tackled and defeated. Our schools must never display any mercy or tolerance towards bullies and hostile aggressors.
For ages, schools have always served as institutional fountains of cognitive knowledge, arithmetic ingenuity and imaginative intelligence. As bastions of enlightenment, schools are also distillers of mutual respect, tolerance, moral decency and righteousness. At school, we must teach learners to appreciate the sanctified value of harmony, friendship, love and humanity. All learners and their parents must know that schools will never again tolerate any acts of bullying and aggressive hostilities. Incidents of aggressive bullying must warrant immediate suspension or expulsion from school. We must never allow predatory bullies to turn our educative schools into dens of fear and terror.
