Young people against crime project rewarded with new soccer kit

THE Mashamba-based company, HBE Transport, helped the community they serve by donating soccer kit to Tshitale Youth Against Crime during a ceremony held last Friday.
The idea of lending a helping hand came after HBE Transport manager, Rackson Mashamba, was deeply touched to see these children playing soccer in their everyday clothes. He said sport united people, and built healthy minds and bodies and, as such, was a worthy cause to support.
Tshitale police station commander, Lt Col Mavhungu Madavhu, said there was no better way to unite and strengthen the community than by using sport.
She said since launching the Youth Against Crime project, there had been a decrease in crime in the Tshitale area.
“If the youngsters are off the streets, we will have good future leaders. We are encouraging them to participate in different sporting codes like soccer, netball and athletics.
“Fighting crime is a collective task for both the police and the community. The police can’t win the fight against crime alone. We can’t allow our country to be taken over by criminals,” Madavhu said.
One of the young people, Hlulani Hangwani, encouraged other young people from other areas to take part in the fight against crime.
“Life has improved in our area since we started working with the police. I encourage others to do the same because we have solid testimony that it works,” he said.
