Polokwane Ovals start year with a bang

POLOKWANE – In 2013, Polokwane Ovals drivers won five national titles in Motorsport South Africa’s oval category and hope to win more this year.
The first race of the season will take place at the Polokwane Showgrounds on Saturday.
In the rookie class, Roean van Breda, the rookie class champion in 2013, will face off against 12 others. This is an entry class where young people are trained for faster classes.
Many stockrod drivers spent their holidays working on their cars. Racers in this class will aim for national honours if Motorsport South Africa gives the go-ahead.
This class is filled with stock standard cars with minor modifications on the engines and suspensions. Former champion, Tienie Klopper will compete against Joseph Bothma, Louis Reytenberg from Mokopane and Frans Malatji.
Known for its bumper to bumper racing, the 1600 modifieds class is expecting a full grid.
Heath Bent will take on his father, Sammy. JJ Fourie has his new car ready and the Copper family from Mokopane will also bring great racing to the track. Drivers from Middelburg will also join in this race.
Pieter Venter, regional champion in the 2.0L modifieds class crashed into a wall during the last race of 2013 and had to build a new car. The car is almost finished and will be ready to compete.
Johnny du Randt and his brother, Rudolf, Rudi van Breda, Haccum Hough and a newcomer, Desmond Bosch will complete the grid.
The cars in this class have nearly no limits and the racers are free to fit any modified parts as long as it is powered by a 2.0L engine.
National title holders, Allas Pie-naar and Stephan Weideman will prove that they deserve the title.
They wil race in the rotary class along with André Pienaar, Nico Vorster and Middelburg racer, Wors Prinsloo.
SZ Venter, national champion in the super saloon class, had some technical difficulties in the last race of 2013. Piet Venter and Phillip de Wett will complete the grid in their mighty V8’s.
Gates to Saturday’s race will open at 12:00, with the race starting at 18:00.
