Mogale helps boys succeed in life
Joseph Mogale of Mankweng, Ga-Mothapo, believes that he can make a difference in the lives of young people by involving them in sport, especially soccer.
POLOKWANE – Joseph Mogale of Mankweng, Ga-Mothapo, believes that he can make a difference in the lives of young people by involving them in sport, especially soccer.
Mogale established the Lucky Boys Football Club in 1998 when he was still in high school. He explained to Review how he saved up all his pocket money to buy soccer kits and balls for the boys in his team.
All the boys playing for Lucky Boys FC come from disadvantaged backgrounds, according to Joseph.
“My love for soccer started in primary school. I decided to bring young people together in one soccer team to keep them off the streets and away from drugs. I also want to help them to develop their leadership skills,” he says.
One of the Lucky Boys team members, William Mogale, says he started playing for the club when he was in gr. 4.
“Joseph is a very good leader who takes very good care of us. He did some great things for us. He uses his own vehicle to take us to soccer games and buys all our soccer kits and equipment from his own pocket,” he says.
Lucky Boys FC consists of 42 players between the ages of 16 and 24.
“The team is doing so well that I am thinking of joining the Castle regional soccer league next year. It will be great to see how my players performed against other semi-professional teams. I hope to give them the exposure they deserve,” Joseph said.
“My greatest wish is to see my players make it in the big leagues, the PSL and National First Division.”
