THE Toyota Cheetahs have suffered a blow at the start of this year’s Super Rugby season as Boom Prinsloo has had to have surgery on a groin injury.

The squad met in November to prepare for the Super Rugby season and 11 of their 12 new signings were present for the pre-season training. However, Prinsloo was absent after undergoing his second operation and coach Naka Drotske says he could be out for up to four months.

The 25-year-old Prinsloo will not be alone on the side lines at the start of the Super Rugby season, as flyhalf Elgar Watts and locks Boela Serfontein and Hilton Lobberts are all recovering from knee injuries.

Drotske says he expects Serfontein and Watts to be available to play in March, while Lobberts is only expected to return in May.
