First successful fun run for Coach Mehale

The inaugural Coach Mehale Fun Run held on the sport precinct next to the new Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday attracted more than 100 entries.
George Mehale, a former South African 400 m champion and a founding member of Mema Athletics Club said the fun run was the ideal way to start the Festive Season. “This will surely become an annual event. I am pleased to see so many athletes supporting the event. It is for young and old, professionals and novices,” Mehale said.
No official prize giving was held but the category winners were handed a sponsored water bottle as prize and token of appreciation.
In the 5 km fun run Aiden Jordaan won the men’s category while Gertrude Makonyane was the first woman to cross the finish line.
In the women’s category of the 10 km race Masela Kolobe won both the open and junior categories. Second in the open category was Busi Nyabana with Kgaogelo Masipa third.
Ansie Marais took the first place in the walkers’ as well as the woman 50 to 59 categories while Linda Were was the first woman home in the 60 to 69 category.
Vincent Mokgehle claimed victory in the men’s open category with Thomas Magodi and Freddy Sethole in second and third place respectively.
Sethole was also the first man 40 to 49 years to finish the race. Jan Nkuna gave the walkers a hard time on the route to finish first. He was also the winner of the 50 to 59 category. Anton Robberts was first in the 60 to 69 category.
