Baroka adds three international players to their squad

Baroka Football Club has secured the services of Zimbabwean midfielder Talent Chawapiwa, Zambian striker Brian Mwila and Tanzanian defender Abdi Banda ahead of the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season which commences on 19 August.
They were scouted during the recent Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) tournament held Moruleng Stadium in North West.
Chawapiwa won gold with Zimbabwe at Cosafa and was signed from Platinum Football Club, while Mwila played for Green Buffaloes and Banda spent few seasons at Simba Football Club.
The trio is expected to be in the first line-up when Baroka plays Polokwane City Football Club in the opening match of the PSL season on 19 August at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
“We have finalised everything with them except the work permit. They are with us but they can’t train with the team because we are still waiting for their work permits from the Department of Home Affairs. We are however adamant that we will be done with their work permits before the beginning of the season,” Ngobeni said.
He also mentioned that they will be adding three more players to the team before August. “We are not done with signing players. We still want a goalkeeper, midfielder and a defender. We have learned our lesson from last season and we don’t want to fight relegation anymore. We are looking forward to the upcoming season and we can assure our fans that we will compete for any trophy on offer,” Ngobeni said.
Asked why they decided to take the Africa route for scouting players, Ngobeni explained they wanted quality and talented players. “The players we signed are quality players and winners in their own right. They have been doing well at their clubs and national teams and we believe they will continue with their good work at Baroka,” added Ngobeni.
