Video games junkies compete in cyberspace

Gaming enthusiasts from as far as Johannesburg flocked to the city to be part of the third annual African Video Gamers Corner (AVGC) Fifa Live in Cinema tournament hosted a Savannah Mall on Saturday.
Founder of AVGC, Samuel Mphaga said 32 enthusiasts entered including some of the top online Fifa players in the world. “This year marked the third annual gaming event and it went well, despite the fact that we were not able to use the cinema due to a broken projector and had to continue on television screens,” Mphaga said. Certain players were however disappointed that the event could not continue on the big screen.
Participants were from different demographics, age groups and ethnic backgrounds. “It was a great achievement and we only received positive response from competitors. I also want to thank everyone who came by to show support to the event. It takes responsibility, sacrifices and lot of hard work to host such an event but I am blessed with good friends whose efforts certainly contribute to the success of the event,” he said.
The first place winner is only known as Jerry who received a R1 000 shopping voucher while runner-up Werner Venter received a Ster-Kinekor hamper.
