Limpopo Pride Basketball Club has entered into a vigorous training regimen in the hope of it catapulting the only team representing the province into one of the first four positions of the national league starting in Gauteng in mid-September.
This year the squad is eyeing one of the top positions after last year’s exit in fifth position, according to Limpopo Basketball Association Chairperson Gizani Khoza who believes they would fare better this year given the quality of the team. Speaking during a practice session in Nirvana on Saturday, Khoza expressed the hope that they would achieve their goal of getting into the top four to make it to the finals.
The Limpopo team took eighth positions both in 2013, when the league started, and in 2014. In 2015 it dropped by a position in ranking.
Katlego Sethole, otherwise known as Jumbo, is one of the majority of players from the province with three players hailing from Gauteng. The 26-year-old electrical technician from Rainbow Park, who played for Pythons, Polokwane Hawks and Seshego Sonics before and is a product of Hoër Tegniese Skool Tom Naude, shared Khoza’s sentiments when saying he was looking forward to the team improving on last year’s performance.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Tume Mapela the players meet on Saturdays for physical training sessions in the mornings and all work and scrimmage in the afternoons.
