Local motocross draws big crowd

Motocross fans were treated to a high adrenaline spectacular at the Capricorn Racing Club’s tracks on Saturday as the club held a fun day in which the local riders could hone their skills.
As the day is intended for fun only, there are no prizes to be won and racers use days like these to prepare for upcoming competitions as they can train against other riders on the track, CRC Chairperson Dean Rudiger said.
The day was opened with the youngsters racing each other on the junior track with three-year-old Troy Delport showing that one can never be too young to race. The club’s top riders gave an impressive display of skill where Johannesburg based rider Ruben Aucamp and local favourite Janneman Potgieter, ranked second in South Africa in 2016, were the favourites. In the four-heeler category Szander Steyl and Kevin Fichardt made sure that the spectators were covered in dust as they drifted their quad bikes around the dirt corners.
The first heat was brought to an end when the mothers and children raced each other on the flat track.
The club’s next fun day is scheduled for 30 September.
