Hungarian Laszlo Toth beat former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Tsiko Mulovhedzi from Venda on points after an energy sapping 12 rounds during the Limpopo Champions Boxing tourney held at Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex on Friday evening to claim the title.
Toth who boasts 28 fights, 24 wins and 18 knock-outs was just too classy for Mulovhedzi. He made good use of his speed and agility landing big punches on Mulovhedzi thus colleting vital points in every round.
Phathudzelo Dongola, Event Organiser said they were not surprised by the outcome because Toth was professional and focused as compared to Mulovhedzi. “Mulovhedzi failed to meet the required weight during weigh-in process on Friday. Coming in to the fight he was not in the right frame of mind because as a professional boxer one must respect the weigh-in process but he didn’t. He already lost the fight on the scale. The loss is a wake-up call for him,” Dongola said.
Dongola is however adamant that the 30-year-old boxer who has 25 fights and 12 wins under his belt can still return to his former glory. “This was the eighth loss of his career and we believe he can go back to his old winning ways,” added Dongola.
