The South African national soccer team, Bafana Bafana arrived in Polokwane on Monday ahead of their 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia qualifier match against Senegal scheduled for Peter Mokaba Stadium tomorrow evening (Friday).
The team arrived without Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune who sustained an injury during the Telkom Knockout Cup quarter-final match against Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.
Bafana, currently last in Group D with four points, needs to beat Senegal at home and away to win the group and automatically qualify for the world cup.
During a short welcome ceremony at Polokwane International Airport on Monday Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Onicca Moloi spoke on behalf of Premier Stan Mathabatha and said the province was delighted to host the national team and confident that they will do well against Senegal.
“First of all we would like to express our appreciation to the South African Football Association for returning the match to our province. We can assure them that we will be good hosts. The national team is carrying on their shoulders the hopes of the entire nation. As people of Limpopo, we assure them of our support all the way and we have no doubt that they will drub Senegal,” she said.
