In their quest to win automatic promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), Black Leopards Football Club appointed Belgian national Ivan Minnaert as its head coach last Wednesday.
Minnaert who previously worked for football clubs in Guinea, Rwanda, Kenya and Mali and replaces fellow countryman Jean Losciuto.
Losciuto joined Leopards last season and finished in the promotional play-offs but struggled to win matches this season.
He only managed to collect six points in the last ten matches of the National First Division (NFD) thus putting the club in the 13th position of the division.
According to a source at the club, Minnaert will bring in a wealth of experience having played a huge role in some of the teams in Africa as a coach.
“He has signed a two year contract with us and we believe he will add value in the team. We did not start the season well and we are currently not doing well. We needed a change, we have quality players who can deliver and we believe they will work well with him.”
Minnaert is expected to be in charge of the team when they face Mthatha Bucks at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday. “We are currently busy with his work permit and we hope to sort it out before the match against Mthatha Bucks,” concluded the source.
