Polokwane City Football Club striker, Rodney Ramagalela won double accolades at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) monthly recognition awards last Thursday where he scooped the Goal of the Month awards for August and September and Player of the Month for October.
Currently the PSL top goal scorer with six goals, Ramagalela was recognised for his stunningly taken chipped goal during his team’s 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on 22 August. Public choice votes cast were overwhelmingly in favour of his goal.
In the Player of the Month category, Ramagalela beat fellow professionals Sandile Zuke from Chippa United Football Club, Baroka Football Club’s Gift Motupa and Sipho Moeti, Thabo Qalinge of Orlando Pirates Football Club and Siphiwe Tshabalala from Kaizer Chiefs Football Club to the award.
A statement released by the PSL last Thursday indicated that the judging panel had been impressed by Ramagalela’s work rate and appetite for creating a scoring opportunities for his team. “He was recognised for being able to neutralise opposition defenders when he plays either as a forward or on the wing. Ramagalela scored three goals and provided two assists in City’s matches during this period,” statement the statement read.
Ramagalela expressed his joy at winning the two awards and acknowledged his teammates and coach Bernard Molekwa for the support they have shown since the start of the season.
