The province will be well represented when the national ring tennis team arrives in Minsk, Belarus towards the end of July to participate in the Ring Tennis and Ringo World Championships.
Hein van der Lith, head coach of the team is also convinced that his charges are likely to bring home a gold medal from the event. The team won gold at the Ring Tennis and Ringo World Championship held in Germany in 2010 and in 2014 secured a silver medal when the championships were held in Gauteng.
Speaking during the team’s training camp in Polokwane Ring Tennis courts on Saturday Van der Lith said they have a strong team and that will help them to achieve their goal. “We have been doing well in the championships over the past years and we can’t afford to drop the standard. We will be representing the nation and we need to make them proud,” he said.
The team will be captained by local resident Heleen Potgieter who said she was happy to lead the squad. “It will be my third time as captain and we are looking forward to a great championship,” Potgieter said.
Team members from the province are Graig Ogilvie, Richter van Tonder, Rowan van Tonder, Vernon Jones, Marcé Ströh, Marizelle le Roux, Bronwin Ogilvie and Evert Potgieter.
