Zanis Gymnastics in Polokwane are proud to be hosting an international coaching course, the first of its kind in Limpopo, this week.
The course started on Saturday with an opening dinner. Training commenced on Sunday and continues until Thursday (28 June) and is presented by the South African Gymnastics Federation (SAGF) in close cooperation with the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (Fig) Academy Programme.
Gymnastics coaches from around the country as well as from Swaziland, Mozambique and Zimbabwe are attending.
The facilitators of the course include Marti Heri, SAGF National Development Manager and Monika Siskova, Fig Slovakia Vice President and a member of the Gymnastics for Life committee. Also facilitating are Barbara Murphy and Richard Marshall, both with the SAGF.
Addressing participants at the opening dinner, Siskova said she looked forward to getting to know them. “The fun starts tomorrow, we will work hard but we will learn a lot too,” she concluded.
Polokwane Observer caught up with Zanis Gymnastics coach Cecil van den Bergh who is a participant earlier this week during training sessions. Van den Bergh said he was learning a lot out of the various sessions being held and looked forward to the remainder of the course.
Limbikani Phiri and Hudson Chibedura, both from Zimbabwe, said it was an incredible opportunity for them to learn more. “We can’t wait to get home and apply what we have learnt,” they both concurred.
