Ace pitcher for Moletlane Texas Softball Club Tidima Kekana will represent the country at the International Softball Congress Tournament set for Canada from 11 to 18 August.
Kekana, the 2017 Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Sportsman of the Year award winner, will participate in the contest as a guest player for the Canadian softball outfit, Three Cheers Pub Fast Pitch. He was selected by the club at the recent National Softball Championships in Gauteng.
The annual softball competition will feature some of the top European and African softball teams. Teams from six North American regions as well as an international team are expected to participate
It will not be the first time Kekana represents the country on international level. In 2009, he competed at the International Softball Federation’s World Softball Super Series, the world cup version of softball that was held in Canada.
After cementing his place in the national team, Kekana went to New Zealand in 2013 for the Super Series where South Africa was eliminated in the group stages. He was also part of the national team that went to Canada in 2017.
Kekana said he was looking forward to make the country and province proud at the tourney. “This tournament came at an opportune moment when I was longing for real action. It actually marks the beginning of a new era for me as a pitcher. This spells exciting moments for me as I believe it will lay a good foundation in order to prepare for next year’s World Series to be held in the Czech Republic.
“I am planning to learn a lot of things from this tournament. Surely there will be some valuable lessons which I intend to impart to my fellow countrymen,” Kekana said.
