Limpopo Sport Confederation has welcomed the appointment of Thandi Moraka as the MEC for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
Moraka was appointed by Premier Stan Mathabatha last Thursday and takes over from Onicca Moloi who vacated the position in June.
Spokesperson for the confederation Abel Rakoma said Moraka’s appointment will stabilise the provincial administration as far as sport development as epitome of service delivery is concerned. “We believe the new MEC would need to play a pivotal part in branding this province positively and of course taking things forward from where Onicca Moloi left off.”
He added that the confederation would urge the new MEC to mitigate on the little and meagre budget allocated to her new department. “We need to conquer the country with a possible new energetic, vibrant and enterprising MEC. The challenge to excellence in the sports sector is always resources with money being the most glaring one. Our pundits may not agree on everything we say and some of their reactions may be controversial but that is the beauty of it. Sport is all about opinions and perceptions.
“She possesses an impeccable record in nation-building initiatives while she is an acclaimed fitness fanatic herself. With her massive political and societal background, the confederation rests assured that all will be well in the development of sport in the province. We wish her, a happy, generous and prosperous stay in the department,” Rakoma concluded.
