Six members of Eagar Aquatics Professional Swimming Academy in Polokwane who braved the cold during the club’s annual Big Swim fundraising event held at Pepps’ Swimming pool in July, were on Monday presented with gift vouchers to the value of R500 each.
Ivan Beukes, Marinus Schrader, Phindulo Mainganye, Craig Freestone, Vion Marais and Ayla Bornman managed to raise R25 000 that will be utilised towards logistics and the general running of the academy.
Chairperson of the Academy, Rob Anderson explained that each swimmer was tasked with sourcing private sponsors for their swimming lengths. “The swimmers participated in a 5 km swim on the day and their sponsors paid them a set amount for every length they completed,” Anderson said.
“We want to thank all the swimmers that participated in the event. It was an exciting day, we had senior swimmers, advanced juniors, beginners and flippers from the Academy and they all enjoyed swimming for a good course,” Anderson remarked.
