Madritas Football Club from Mankweng was crowned the 2018/19 Limpopo ABC Motsepe League champions at Ben Seraki Sports Complex at Senwabarana on last Wednesday. They beat Dolphins Football Club 5-0 to finish on 64 points.
The club will represent the province at the National First Division (NFD) playoffs set for June when they will be up against Mangaung United (Free State), Summerfield Dynamos Football Club (KwaZulu Natal), Acornbush United Football Club (Mpumalanga) and Hungry Lions Football Club (Northern Cape).
In North West the race is still between Buya Msuthu, Casric Football Club and Young Zebras Football Club, in Gauteng Dondol Stars, JDR Stars and Baberwa Football Club are still in the running. The Eastern Cape race is between Tornado Football Club, Mthatha Bucks and Bizana Pondo Chiefs and in the Western Cape Steenberg United need a win to secure their playoffs spot in their home province.
The two teams that finish the playoffs in the first and second position, based on points, will gain automatic promotion to the NFD.
Madritas’ assistant coach, Mashiane Phadu said they were excited to have reached the playoffs. “Our goal was to reach the playoffs and we did it. There is only one team in the province that is campaigning in the NFD and want to increase that number. What we promise our supporters is that we will go to the playoffs and fight for that number one spot,” Mashiane said.
