Baroka Football Club has started with the construction of its new club facilities on 14 ha of land adjacent to the Lebowakgomo showgrounds.
Club chairperson Khurishi Mphahlele revealed that the envisaged state-of-the-art facility, to be named Baroka Village, will boast change rooms, two soccer fields, accommodation for players and personnel, an administration block, entertainment facilities for children, a swimming pool and gymnasium.
Mphahlele said the construction commenced on 8 March and was expected to create employment opportunities for more than 40 persons in the province.
He said once the facility reaches completion it would not only be used by the club but other soccer teams around the Lepelle-Nkumpi area would also have use of it. “One of the reasons we decided to build a new facility was because of the club’s growth. “We need a bigger area. We have one soccer ground at Seleteng village which could no longer cater for all four teams. They were at a point sharing a field and that arrangement was no longer conducive. The new facility will cater for everyone,” Mphahlele said.
“We are building a legacy for the people of Lepelle-Nkumpi and people of Limpopo so that even when I am no longer there, people can still come and enjoy their lives. I am doing this so that local boys can have a proper facility to train, they must feel at home when they get here. The construction will take me two to three years but if I can finish in two years, I will be happy,” remarked Mphahlele.
He did not want to divulge the estimated cost to build the sports precinct. “I cannot divulge the amount but it is going to cost us a lot of money. But it’s okay, our priority now is to finish the dressing rooms and then do the grounds so that by the beginning of the new season we can start training there,” he concluded.
