As the provincial netball squad, Limpopo Baobabs are about to embark on their 2019 Netball Premier League journey Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Thandi Morake has added her voice to that of netball lovers to wish the team well.
Speaking at the squad’s send-off ceremony in Polokwane on Monday, Moraka reportedly said she would love to see the squad doing well in the league. “This is one sporting code we must dominate as Limpopo. You were selected on merit and I have confidence in you. Go and represent us well.”
The league commences on 10 May and will stretch over five weeks with nine provincial teams competing. The Baobabs finished in 8th position last year following their 56-32 loss to KwaZulu- Natal in the quarterfinals.
Head coach of the team, Anna Ledwaba believes they have a strong team that can help them to win silverware. “We have selected a very good team. Some of the players have been there before, we will rely on their experience to win matches,”Ledwaba said.
She pointed out that they want to improve in this year’s competition and fight for the top honours.
“We want to win the league but it is not going to be easy. What we can promise our fans and the people of the province is that we are not in the league to add numbers but to compete,” Ledwaba stressed.
The final squad comprises of Rumandi Potgieter, Grace Lechaba, Dakalo Tshikalala, Kamogelo Motsamai, Michelle de Nysschen, Tylona Williamson, Simone van Reenen, Nompumelelo Matekala, Sylvia Lebelo, Modjadji Ramorwalo, Kgothatso Mofomme and Shongile Hlongwane.
