Cricket’s best show off their skills

Eagles Cricket Club's A-team is definitely the team to beat in this season's Sunday Premier League.

POLOKWANE – Eagles Cricket Club’s A-team is definitely the team to beat in this season’s Sunday Premier League.

The team raked up a record eight wins in succession and tops the leader board with a total of 45 points. The only two other teams that might stand a chance of toppling them are the teams from Aces, on 37 points, and Hornbills, on 31 points.

After Aces thrashed Stars1 last time round, league leaders, Eagles A, were up against them on Sunday.

The match was played on Stars1’s home ground in Nirvana. Stars1 managed to shrug off their dismal performance with the bat in the previous match to score 106 runs all out this time around.

In spite of this, Eagles A still proved to be too strong for Stars1 winning by eight wickets, ending on 107 runs for two wickets.

This weekend’s promotional league session is the last for 2013 and will continue in January next year.

The Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) women’s team, the Lilies, competed against Northerns in a Cricket South Africa 50 overs women’s match at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday. The Lilies won the toss and decided to send Northerns in to bat first. The visitors scored a very good total of 278 runs for two wickets in their allocated 50 overs.

The Lilies replied with a poor performance, with only 21 runs on the board.

Two of Northerns’ bowlers, Marcia Letsoalo and Sunnette Luus, are national players.

LIC spokesperson, Sedibu Mohlaba, said this game was in preparation the national tournament set to take place in Cape Town from December 3 – 9.
