POLOKWANE – There are just a few days left before the 2014 Comrades Marathon on Sunday, and Ryan Chapman of Pietersburg Road Runners says he is anxious, but ready to run the race.
This will be Chapman’s first time running the Comrades Marathon. He says he has been training hard and believes he will finish the race in the required time.
He started running races in Port Elizabeth last year, and joined Pietersburg Road Runners in January when he relocated to Polokwane.
“I have always enjoyed running, but I did not take it seriously. Running is a sport that you can do on your own. I have trained well and I am confident that I will finish the Comrades in less than nine hours,” he says.
Chapman lives up to his motto: if others can, it means it is possible. He adds that he wants to be among the first 15 000 athletes to cross the finish line.
He has participated in the Om die Dam, Loskop and Port Elizabeth Marathons. He says the best thing about running is that one can see and feel their improvement. Chapman says he has lost 10kg since he started running marathons.
“What inspires me is to see big and old people running. This shows commitment and passion for the sport.
“Young people should also join the sport to stay fit and live a healthy life,” he says.
He thanks Pietersburg Road Runners for the warm welcome and for assisting with his training sessions to get ready for the Comrades.
