Sights set on next season

ONE goal in each half by Selaelo Ledwaba was enough to secure three points for SAB League club, Peace United, with a 2-1 win over Seshego-based Manyora FC.

Despite having to take on Gunners FC and Baroka FC before the 2013/14 season curtain closed, United coach, Paen Nkhwashu, said he was now planning for the next season.

United are placed fifth on the log and can only move one step if they collected victories over Gunners and Baroka. But the Polokwane-based club’s inconsistency during the season left so much to be desired. Prior to their hard fought win over Manyora, who missed a penalty in the dying minutes of the match, United had suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of Moria Sweepers.

Nkhwashu said despite the club not reaching the expected heights, their season has been one to remember. He said promoting two players to the National First Division (NFD) club, Baroka was a highlight, and that they were working towards promoting more raw talent. “We wanted to gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League, but the gods of soccer did not smile upon us when we needed them to and we are hopeful next season will be a fruitful one. We pride ourselves on developing and nurturing talent and turning two youngsters professional was our highlight of the season,” Nkhwashu said.

United promoted striker, Victor Letsoalo and Paul Mamabolo to Baroka, and if what Nkhwashu said was anything to go by, one of their players would sign a professional contract in the current transfer window.

United disappointed their supporters when they were booted out of the Polokwane Municipality Mayor’s Cup, which offered a R50 000 cash prize.

Nkhwashu apologised for the club’s poor showing and promised fireworks in the upcoming season.

“I would like to thank our supporters for sticking with us throughout this difficult season, and we promise to put together a competitive team which will win them some silverware. A special thanks to our players for their loyalty and their sheer dedication every time they put on the club’s jersey,” added Nkhwashu.
