POLOKWANE – Evah Ramashala, a physiotherapist in the city, will be part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 3.
More that 6 500 athletes and officials from 71 countries will compete in 17 sporting codes over 11 days.
Ramashala will be on the sidelines as a physiotherapist for athletes competing in athletics, para-athletics and weight-lifting.
She has been a physiotherapist since 2003 and has assisted at tournaments since 2004.
She was part of the South African Games, Zone 6 Games, Paralympics Games, the Banyana Banyana team and youth and senior athletics.
She said one needed to have patience, be dedicated and have the latest information about the management of sports injuries.
Most sporting events during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will take place on three compact site clusters to the east, south and west of the city centre, but there are some events that take place outside the city. This will be the third time Scotland hosts the Commonwealth Games.
Ramashala encouraged athletes to warm-up before any event. She said athletes should also perform cool-down exercises to let their bodies relax. “Athletes should consult physiotherapists whenever they encounter injuries so that they can be looked after. Injuries need proper management and rehabilitation so they won’t get worst,” she said.
