POLOKWANE – Rosina Rachidi (19), a gr. 11 Mountain View Secondary School learner has been selected to be part of the national women’s softball team which will represent the country in Canada during the international softball championships.

The dates and venues for the championships are still to be confirmed.

She was spotted by scouts during the u/19 national softball championships that took place at the Polokwane Cricket Club recently, where she was named the best pitcher of the tournament.

Rachidi used to play baseball before she joined Pioneers Softball Club, which is based in Mankweng.

“I am happy to be part of the team as it has opened doors for me. I am even more delighted to be part of the national team and I have already started preparing so that I can do my best. This will be my first time representing the country, and I am honoured. I am sure I will learn many things during the international championships,” Rachidi said.

She said she was part of the u/23 provincial team that travelled to Cape Town in February.

Rachidi said she wanted to play for professional softball teams and earn a decent salary from it.

“I grew up in a poor family and this motivates me to do my best so that I can help my family,” she said.

She seeks assistance to buy softball equipment which includes boots, helmet, bat and gloves. Anyone who is willing to help can contact Rachidi at 078 018 5438 or 072 940 4561.
