POLOKWANE – The sound of model aircraft in flight at the Area 51 Radio Controlled Flying Club’s field marked the club’s first year of existence.
More than 100 model airplane enthusiasts and spectators gathered at the field to enjoy the hobby and share it with each other. Unique airplanes, built to scale, 3D helicopters and other radio controlled aircraft took to the sky throughout the day.
A demonstration with a camera-equipped quadcopter was also done, with aerial footage being taken.
“The sport is one for the whole family and the facilities we have here are great,” said Fernando Lopez, vice chairperson of the club.
“We want to grow the hobby with flying days like this one, and look forward to hosting some big events in September.”
