Capricorn league kicks off in city with exciting netball matches

Teams in the Capricorn District Netball League played their first league matches at the Polokwane netball courts on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – Teams in the Capricorn District Netball League played their first league matches at the Polokwane netball courts on Saturday.

However, only five teams of the 14 teams that registered for the league pitched up for the match.

Teams that competed were Young Fighters, Maebana, Rising Stars, University of Limpopo and The Stars Netball Club.

Rising Stars are the winners of last year’s league, and will be defending their title this year.

According to Cecilia Molekwane, Rising Stars head coach and Limpopo Netball president, the matches were well played, but she was disappointed by the teams that did not attend.

She said Rising Stars were prepared to win the title again and were also preparing for the Limpopo Netball Premier League, which is expected to start in August 30 at the Jane Furse netball courts.

Molekwane said this was the first time the Limpopo Netball Premier League was being held and would be officially launched on the day of the matches.

Teams from the Capricorn district that will play in the Netball Premier league are Young Fighters, Rising Stars and the University of Limpopo.

“Our netball leagues seem to be improving and players are very committed and hard working.

“We competed in the national netball competition this year and managed to claim the fourth position in the B-section. I believe that the Baobabs Netball team will do well in next year’s national competition,” said Molekwane.
