Letaba Citrus, Unifruits, and Laparisa’s farm teams won first places in the various sporting codes at Hlanganani Centre in Letsitele.
Unifruits from Hoedspruit in Maruleng beat APC Highlanders from ZZ2 in Greater Letaba 5-4 on penalties, following a scoreless draw in regulation time to win the men’s soccer category.
Letaba Citrus from Greater Tzaneen thrashed Rooikoppies from Greater Letaba 3-0 in the women’s soccer. Girly Mdungazi, Nyiko Pilusa and Pelly Myambo each scored a goal to give Letaba Citrus a well deserved win.
In netball, Naparisa from Letsitele in Greater Tzaneen defeated Mokgoba from Modjadjiskloof in Greater Letaba 9-6.
The winners received trophies and gold medals.
All 30 teams that competed in the Mopani District Farm Sports Festival received new kits, courtesy of the department of sport, arts and culture.
According to the organisers of the event, the purpose of the games was to unearth hidden talent and encourage farm workers to participate in sporting activities.
